Students in academic programs can also be admitted to the United States in J visa category for exchange visitors, if the school sponsors an exchange visitor programs recognized by U.S. Department of State.
Family members of the J-1 exchange visitor
Spouse and minor children of J-1 exchange visitor may enter the U.S. in the J-2 visa category. The spouse and minor children can accept employment with USCIS authorization, but their compensation will be used for for their own support only.

2. Receipt showing the payment of SEVIS fee
3. Passport

Special requirement of two-year foreign residency
Some exchange visitors are subject to a two-year foreign residence requirement once they completed their U.S. stay. If any J-1 exchange visitor is subject to such requirement, he or she is not eligible for permanent residence or nonimmigrant visas in the H or L category until he or she spends two years in his or her home country. However, an exchange visitor subject to this requirement may apply for a waiver in some situations
