What are the requirements for naturalization?
- The applicant must be admitted as a permanent resident.
- The applicant must have resided continuously in the United States for at least five years immediately preceding filing for naturalization (three years for the spouses of citizens).
- The applicant must have resided for at least three months immediately preceding the
filing for naturalization in the state in which the application is filed.
- The applicant must have been physically present in the United States for a total of at least one half of the period of required continuous residence.
- The applicant must have the ability to read, write, and speak ordinary English.
- The applicant must have good moral character.
